A new study, called the Illinois Kids Development Study at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, links increased use of acetaminophen during pregnancy, especially in the second trimester, to a small but noticeable increase in attention problems in 2- to 4-year-olds. Published in the journal “Neurotoxicology and Teratology,” the study adds to the evidence that links frequent use of acetaminophen in pregnancy to developmental problems. The children in the study, although not diagnosed, showed more attention-related problems and ADHD-type behaviors, at every age.
